Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio and actor Steven Seagal teamed up Saturday to provide active-shooter response training to the civilian posse that has begun guarding Phoenix-area schools.
Arpaio and Seagal guided posse members through a simulated school shooting on Saturday in Fountain Hills. MCSO deputies played the parts of the shooters, and posse members used rifles and handguns that fired blanks, reports KTVK.
A group showed up to protest Arpaio's school protection plan, and state lawmaker called Seagal's involvement a mockery.
"Anybody who has criticized me or the sheriff for standing up to help the children, in my opinion, is an embarrassment to the human race," Seagal told ABC News.

I wish I lived closer to the West Coast because i would be the first one to invite Steven Stegal to East Tennessee to train civilian posses so that we can protect our school. I can't afford to bring him here myself but would make every effort to get people involved if we had such a well known person come to our community

Ok, the joke in the commercal goes like this; "I'm not a doctor but I spent the night at a Holliday Inn". Steven Seagal is an actor and a martial arts practitioner and a sometimes reserve deputy with a sheriff's agency in Louisiana. I'm not sure that qualifies him as an active shooter instructor. A shill, maybe. And Joe's been an embaresment to professional law enforcement in Arizona for a long time now. Most people recognize a staged media event when they see it. A better way to address school security would be to again fund SRO (school resource officers) programs using full time police officers.

Steven is a most qualified person for this type of training.with his discipline in martial arts and his composure as a Police Officer.(deputy chief) Parrish county.La.he should do this nationwide and maybe it could stop some of these senseless killings going on in our schools. Carry on Brother STEVEN.FOR YOU ARE A GREAT MAN!

I don't know how good a reserve officer Steven Seagal is, but active killer response begins with individual skills and tactics. Mr Seagal has been a martial arts instructor and was one of the actors who displayed more realistic gun handling skills on screen. Coupled with his celebrity status and the fact that he does have some LE training and experience under his belt, it might benefit Sheriff Joe's program to make Maricopa schools safe. And in regard to Sheriff Joe, who's more of a joke - him or the Obama Administration that's out to get him.

These two men are great patriots that I trust to train law enforcement on school shootings. I would of love to see Dog the bounty hunter show up as well to help show the posse members how to take down a dangerous fugitive.

Hey Dennis....If you're an LEO...(?)...then you'd understand/appreciate what/why Sifu Seagal and Sheriff Arpaio made the initiative to take action to safe guard OUR CHILDREN! Be a little more constructive with alternative suggestions and spell check your response. Kudos to Sifu Seagal and Sheriff Arpaio.

Ok, 1st off, I'm a 31 yr LEO. The number of active shooter training classes I have attended involve response, tactics, communication, ect. Martial arts has nothing to do with it and, seriously, what fool would equate playing a cop in a movie and the almost comic way weapons are used in these movies to reality and the ability to properly train police officers. I would certainly question if you are a real LEO if you think acting in a movie is the way to learn how to be a police officer. As for Arpaio; so far, the citizens of Maricopa County over the years have had to shell out over $40,000,000 (that's million) of their tax dollars in wrongful death lawsuits coming out of Joe's jail system and the county board of supervisors is now trying to payoff yet another death claim. And his own internal affairs unit just came out with the report of their investigation into the mishandelling of over 400 sex cases involving rape & child molestation. They concluded it was the upper management of Joe's command structure that was the blame for not providing manpower and resourses to have these crimes investigated and sent for prosecution. Ball's in you court.

Ok, now this is just embarassing to all the highly trained veteran law enforcemet professionals out there... Segal is no more qualified to be a police tactics trainer than Dr. Derek (McDreamy) from Greys Anatomy is a brain surgeon.

There are some truly elitist dumbassess posting here. Why are you so insecure? Are you trying to compensate for some deficiency? The only people qualified to protect children are full-time, union, civil service school resource officers? Damn, we need to bring home our overseas military personnel. How can some non union, non civil service personnel possibly respond to avtive shooter situations? Maybe we should also shitcan the U.S. Navy Seals and replace them with police s.w.a.t. teams.
In regards to Steven Seagal, this man has spent years mastering martial arts and instructing people in various law enforcement tactics. So, I think he just might be a little more qualified in teaching &/or responding to active shooter situations than the average patrol officer or school resource officer. Martial art skills have no applications in an active shooter response? What if you came face to face with an active shooter and you were out of ammo or your gun jammed? Most of you elitist assholes would freeze and piss your panties. While Seagal would move than likely disarm the shooter.

I met Steven Seagal several years ago. He came to our martial arts school because our Qwan Jang Nim was incredibly well known (he also met Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris). But while Mr. Seagal is a great guy and was (at one time) a fantastic martial artist, he's not a "real" cop and certainly not someone who should be training cops on active shooter response. Above everything else, he's an actor... an aging actor with more than a few extra pounds on him.
I agree with whoever said we should bring home our troops and put them in these positions instead (if they're up to it and not suffering any PTSD) because they're already trained and are closer to a "real" cop than any actor would be.
