Metro D.C. PD To Hire 300 Cops
October 01, 2011
|
The Metropolitan (D.C.) Police Department should grow to 3,900 officers in the coming year, following Mayor Vincent Gray's announcement that the agency will hire 300 officers.
The agency is losing about 15 officers a month due to retirements, and would grow from the current 3,800 sworn positions, the Washington Post reports. The force was expected to drop to 3,700 by year's end, Chief Cathy Lanier has said. This would have been 100 less than the city needs.
