Cleveland Recruits Sworn In, Laid Off
June 24, 2011
|
More than 40 Cleveland police cadets were sworn in after a Friday graduation, and will be laid off due to city budget cuts.
The Cleveland Division of Police's newest 42 cadets were able to complete their training after the police union and city agreed to a settlement when the city announced deep cuts in May.
By being appointed to active duty, the new officers' certification has been doubled to four years, which means they'll have a better chance to find employment.
The city is laying off 275 full-time workers, and officials say the cuts are required due to an expected loss of more than $35 million in state aid.
