Louisiana Agency Facing Officer Shortage

The Baton Rouge (La.) Police Department is expected to reach a shortage of 81 patrol officers by the summer that has prompted Chief Charles Mondrick to ask city leaders for funding to train 32 cadets.

Chief Mondrick's request may not be immediately granted, because Mayor-President Kip Holden responded that it would be six months before he can look for the $3 million needed for the request, reports The Advocate.

The agency now has 641 sworn officers with an agency allotment of 698.
