Police Equipment Recovery Award Nominations Open

Law enforcement and rental companies have been working together to prevent theft and recover stolen equipment. In recognition of these efforts and many success stories, an annual award was established in 2004 by the American Rental Association (ARA), ARA Insurance Services, and the National Equipment Register (NER).

A significant percentage of equipment thefts affect equipment rental companies. Law enforcement and rental companies have been working together to prevent theft and recover stolen equipment. In recognition of these efforts and many success stories, an annual award was established in 2004 by the American Rental Association (ARA), ARA Insurance Services, and the National Equipment Register (NER).

The award - called the ‘ARA Insurance Services/NER Award’ (AIS/NER Award) - recognizes the law enforcement officer or agent who has “performed exceptional service to the rental industry through the recovery of rental equipment or through theft prevention initiatives” in each award year.

The award will be presented at ‘The Rental Show’ – the largest rental equipment trade show in the world – to be held February 6 to 9, 2006 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

The winner will receive: VIP guest status at the Rental Show with free access to hundreds of equipment exhibits; Travel to/from and accommodations at the Show paid for; Plaque to be presented on day 1 of the Show; A grant of $1,000 to the winner’s department to support equipment investigations.

Nominees can be either sworn law enforcement officers or civilian support personnel. To nominate an officer, submit a brief summary of the case or activity that demonstrates an officer’s achievement in 2005 and contact details via e-mail to NER (gsider@NERusa.com) by December 31, 2005. ARA members are also encouraged to submit nominations. A five-person panel of NER and ARA management will decide the winner.
