Using a Reverse Auction To Buy Patrol Vehicles

The Chicago Police Department opted for a rarely used online "reverse auction" to acquire its new patrol vehicles for a good price. The department used the eBay-style auction earlier this year to award contracts to two Chicago-area car dealers to supply the Ford Police Interceptor sedan and P.I. Utility.

The last Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor didn't go to a Michigan agency in the automaker's backyard. And it didn't go to one of the nation's largest police forces in Los Angeles or Chicago.
