What the Spartan Death Race Meant for Police Training

Chicago Police Officer Joshua Purkiss put himself to the ultimate test. He announced he would participate in the Spartan Death Race—arguably the greatest test of a person's body, mind, and spirit. The nearly three-day race on a 50-mile obstacle course in the dense Vermont woods last week was completed by less than 20% of its participants.

I Can't Stand My FTO!

The role of the Field Training Officer (FTO) is more or less defined as that of a one-on-one supervisor and trainer. They're the direct connection between graduates of the academy and self-actuated functioning police officers. The FTO has a defined mission to be the trainer, evaluator, supervisor, confessor, and many other roles.
