I think the one officer at a time is a good policy, but to deny them the use of the Taser is WRONG! What are we supposed to do, go back to the baton or billy club? Once an officer is SCARED he will resort to whatever it takes to save him/herself. That is where the Taser excels is against meth or cocaine hyper folks. Put the writer of this policy back on the streets on a 3 day, full moon, welfare payday, weekend. Maybe some of his long term memory will come back, if he was a cop that is.

I work for an elected politician, He allows command officers to carry tazers but not the street cops. This makes no sense, when things go bad, as all cops know there is no time to call for a boss with a tazer. There have been many times where a doped up criminal was subdued by several officers and usually a couple officer end up hurt and the suspect ends up dead from what they say is too much adrenalin to the heart. Well if a tazer will produce the same effect (maybe) then why put officers in harms way. People who are doped up to the point that they could die from a struggle or a tazer are not going to be effected by pepper spray. So I guess when dealing with these people my .40 or my baton will have to do...although I may go home that night my dept. will do whatever it takes to stick it to me. This job is very tough these days. The public don't back us, the dept don't back us; its no suprise that lots of cops just look the other way and let these criminals run the streets. Its to the point that the less you do the better off you are. SO SAD.. Let us do our jobs and maybe the criminals will think twice before kicking your front door open in the middle of the day.
