I think what this article emphasizes the most is the press's apathy towards anything that affects Police. If, for some reason, an LEO had been forced to stab a civilian's dog, you can bet this article would be twice as long and full of viewpoints by everyone from Al Sharpton to the ACLU about how the dog's civil liberties were violated by not allowing him to eat the officer.
