Invest Personal Time and Money in Training

I cannot agree more with the tone and substance of this post. I cannot count how many times I have heard my peers say they think I'm crazy for investing in my own career. What makes it worse for me is that my department has a program called "Textbook & Tuition" in which we can be reimbursed for up to $1200 a fiscal year (July to July). All you have to do is a minimum of paperwork before the class and a little paperwork after you get the completion certificate to be reimbursed. Pay for the class after approval and be reimbursed a few weeks later. This is free money every year!!! I have been a deputy for 5 years: I have spent and been compensated over $5500 dollars for unique training such as: Shooting at vehicles, Drug Abuse Recognition classes, terrorist doctrine training, defensive tactics, and Domestic Violence courses. It all looks great on a resume and sets me apart from my peers when it is time for promotion. Train like you play and you will always come out on top! Your life may depend on it!!!!
