Where to eat?

I just saw the new web poll about eating in uniform. The poll was checking on our responses to the Lakewood officers who were murdered while eating.

I was amazed that so many people would mark that they would change where they eat, along with the 1/5th that would not eat out like that on duty anyway. I took this job to help people and one of the ways I help is by making people feel safe. How can they possibly feel safe eating if we refuse to go there and eat?

I refuse to give in to fear of criminals or terrorists. Each time we change our procedures in response to a crime, the criminals win. Police officers being shot simply because they are officers is not new. Police officers being shot while eating in public is not new. The danger level has not changed, and in fact may be slightly lower now that one criminal who would do this is dead.

I will continue to eat in uniform in my patrol area while on duty. I urge all officers to not give in to the criminals and fear.

Actually, most criminals and/or illegal immigrants work in the food service industry, so if you go out to eat, you are probably being served by a criminal. If you hate criminals, then you shouldn't go out to eat at all. You may not be aware of this, because food service people are pumped up to seem chipper. I work in food service, and good grief, I've never seen so many criminals in one place in my life. You name it: theft, murder, it runs the gaumet.

I feel sorry for the poor little killer. I can't help it.

Re: Where to eat? - Eat where you always did...

I will have to agree with you Steve. Since when do officers run from criminals? If they want to risk losing everything to kill an officer, they will do it anywhere (including your own home) much less the fast food joint, local business, or coffee shop where we hang out.

Eat the beef pattie - in uniform, and keep protecting the sheep. The Wolves are known to be assholes, and fermenting pukes, but remember - us dawgs eat anything!

raising my glass to the LakeWood officers...i salute thee for a service well done.

I would never suggest changing where officers eat, but instead how they eat. Ie, do they eat with a tactical mindset? To often I've seen Police Officers walk into an establishment and plop down at a table with their back to the door and no mirror in front. Me? Whenever possible I always pick a chair facing the points of egress with a wall to my back and clear lines of fire to the front if I find myself in a shooting situation.

Re: Where to eat?

How many officers have the time to sit down and eat? And when they do, is it always at the same place at the same time?

The Lakewood officers are just an example of how police officers are being watched and documented by criminals. Gangs and organized criminals alike gather intelligence just as well as the FBI and CIA.

Change up your habits daily including how you go to the store, to and from work, and what you do on duty.

The idea of "It never happens in this town" is folly. This is not the same world it was 20 years ago when your LT or Chief started out.

Stay safe, and peace to Lakewood.
