Most Stolen Vehicles

Just a heads up. . . What are the vehicles most stolen in your area

As far as the list goes

Houston, TX

DODGE -Intrepid, Neon, Ram

FORD- F-150

TOYOTA- Camry

LEXUS (yeah) GS/LS/IS series have now become popular

HONDA - Civic Si

ACURA - Integra Type R

Sad to say, but as a Lexus owner myself I am really worried now. When I first drove my car off the lot they told me that I really didn't even have to buy an alarm for my vehicle due to the fact that the stock alarm was more than enough to secure my vehicle. I have personally recovered 3 already. The last one I recoverd was a GS 300 left on one spare tire, two bricks, and one jack. . . sad, so sad :o(

RE: Most Stolen Vehicles

Most "stolen vehicles" in our area are usually found to be a civil law matter or a "crack rental"... of course there are the joyriding incidents which don't show a trend of being vehicle specific...more of a crime of opportunity/availability.

Car alarms are good for an insurance reduction, but I don't think many people pay much attention to them anymore. A switch off system might be good to go. We also have "LoJack" trackers...so if a vehicle is equipped and in the system an in-unit alert is posted. I heard DPS is using a new plate scanning system.

I think DPS is still experimenting and testing the plate scanning system. It looks like a good idea for a dedicated unit, but I doubt if it will ever go in every patrol car (well, not in the current format). Too many cameras and computer/radio time required for it to be cost effective for every car.

Lojack used to be a much better choice only for high theft cars, but the price has dropped enough now. More departments are also getting the systems instead of having to contact the company and have them do the tracking (like OnStar still requires for GMC's).

RE: Most Stolen Vehicles

Some of the local PD's and probation departments here in Orange County NY just recieved grants for the plate monitoring system. However it does make their cars stand out a bit more. the P.O.'s are using it to locate violators or parolee's in areas they aren't suposed to be and the PD is using it for minor violations(EX: suspend plates stolen vehicles, and other minor issues) As I said it does do much to conceal the unmarked. The two roof mounted camera's kinda give the suprise away a bit then again most people are in such a rush anymore alot of people don't take the time to full observe their surroundings.
