RE: How to verify when agency no longer exists
I carry a leather portfolio when I travel, that, among other things, contains copies of pertinent portions of my KSP personnel file that show such things as when I was hired, promoted and retired. It was available upon request from my former agency.
Unfortunately, before LEOSA came along, I didn't see a such need. Earlier, I could have asked for a copy of my COMPLETE file, asking for and receiving quite a bit of neat stuff, such as letters of commendation, etc., which I really would have liked to have kept, but, by then, due to existing retention routines, had already been purged.
Based on my experience, I'd recommend that everyone request a copy of their own file in its entirety when they file notice of retirement. Having copies MIGHT prove valuable in the future, and once it's gone, it's irreplaceable! Last edited @ 5/31/2007 6:43 AM
