Control your thoughts and life

I gave up work a year ago; this has left me feeling very bored and dissatisfied with life. I had a great job with a good pay packet and benefits. Now at 62, my children wanted me to quit work and take time off for myself so that I can have a leisurely life. I was enjoying myself initially, but now I am bored, disinterested in most things and do not know what to do the whole day? I want to lead a wholesome and happy life.

Life ain't over until it's over...

Wanna help your community and wear a badge?

You are not too old to serve on a Police or Sheriff reserve unit. They take applications, and test you, but as long as you don't mind working for free, you can volunteer your time to have a heck of a lot of fun...and stories to tell your grankids.

Get in to search and rescue (that is where I will be headed after my career ends in about 30 and some odd years). They take anyone that can learn. You can fly and be a spotter, learn and teach CPR and First Aid, save lives and go home feeling great.

You are not too old for a life of public service. In Michigan, the Oakland County Sheriff's Department just had (a while back) a Deputy graduate from the Police Academy at the age of 60.

Volunteering time might be better than a job because you can pick your hours, and your family will be happy about that.

Just some suggestions. Good luck

You are also not too old to work and earn money doing a job you like. I agree with Rachel that you could enjoy a life of volunteering, but you could also enjoy a life of earning money.

Get a job and do what you think is enjoyable. Or find a hobby that you enjoy and can spend time doing. Travel, fly model airplanes, do woodworking, or even play video games.

You can even go back to school and get a new degree. You are never too old to learn and enjoy school, and this time you can take the subjects you really are curious about. (I am doing this now, at 52. I am starting work on a doctorate program that I honestly never expect to use at work.)

You need to find an activity you enjoy, whether it is work, volunteering, or a hobby. If your kids complain, explain that you are bored and want to do something you enjoy. After all, I am sure they just wanted you to be happy. They might have misunderstood what makes you happy, but that is what they wanted.

hey

yeah...these two have some good ideas for you there buddie. do what you find that works for you and even if you work part-time, that's better than a hole day of doing nuthin'.

i see that you can chat up on the web just as good as any of us. you can always start your own web site uploading pictures of what ever pictures you like taking. or get into making walking stiks (wood carving with a pocket style knife) from good branches you find in the woods & you can sell them at a community fair,

i don't know what field or line of work you were in, but try writing a blog of experiences (lot of us cops like to do that), get into cooking with the BBQ, start a mini-farm,

dude, life is full of stuff to do. take up shooting if ya want, and steve's got a great idea of going to college.

whatever fancies you, do a google search and find activities in your area.

Have you seen What about Schmicht? You buy an RV and drive around the countryside, bother your grown children. You can write to a little African boy and get all misty eyed. Or you can join up a ghost town web site like this one, and send spam.

I lost my job too, and now I am trying to recover lost sleep. You can also work at Mcdonalds, and you will meet lots of really interesting mental cases and have plenty of stories to write about. One time I was working at McDonalds and a guy came in dressed as a Martian. I love it when the homeless people come in, after they have fished a used coffee cup out of the trash, and ask for a refill.

You definitely deserve to lay back and enjoy the morning sunshine, birds singing, and flowers blooming! Its good news that you followed your children’s’ advice and gave up work. You can take up a hobby and try new things; you now have time when there was none. Why don’t you take a peak at www.inspiredwomen.com.au for help?
