RE: obama
Well, technically he is not the President yet, or even the president elect. That doesn't occur until the electoral college votes. But I understand what you meant. I agree that way too much has been made of his race, especially since he is as much white as black.

RE: obama
I sometimes wonder how a person blind at birth would regard conversations of 'race'. Sure would be nice if people would look at one another and see just another person, not a color.

The United States' newest hope...
Ah yes...Mr. Obama ~
He will do just fine, more than capable he is! I do see the Secret Service being busy though because unfortunately, people in this country cannot look past skin color, which is a dam shame in my opinion...law enforcement will be have to remain ever vigilant with this president just because of what shape this country is in ans who we have pissed off at us at the moment...but nevertheless,
To Obama:
I wish to you success and victory,
within the realm of history
through desire and hard work employed
you shall excel, and good times enjoyed
By your will so mote it be!
May grace and love bring us all prosperity!

RE: obama
What scares me most about this president is the cult of personality which has arisen over him, to the point that people sing hymns to his praise. He is just a politician. That is all. He said and did whatever it took to get him into office, and now we'll see how well he will do. Considering something like 80% of his cabinet is old Clinton officials, I get the feeling it'll be 'same ole same ole.
A line from the song 'Gethsemane' in 'Jesus Christ SuperStar' comes to mind; "You have set them all on fire, They think they've found the new Messiah, and they'll hurt you when they find they're wrong. " If anything does happen to Obama, odds are very good it will be caused by one or more of his disappointed followers.

Obama
Well...
Since there is a bit of activity here...I voted for McCain. Merely on the fact that he is against abortion, and that I would prefer a war veteran to figure out what in the hell we are going to do with Iraq. We've got extermism, people severely decieved that they are the most supreme over everyone else, trying to wipe out anything remotely resembling Westernism. We've got some political agendas also tied up in the war. It's going to take a bit to get the situation under control where Iraq can stay stable and safe enough to take over, and we can get out of there as quickly as possible. We aren't helping anything by being up in their faces.
As far as Obama...or any other President elect, I don't see why people should create such an idol hype...he hasn't taken the office yet. He has some proving grounds to go through.
Uh, and Quassia13, can you help me out here. What does "by your will so mote it be" mean? That's kind of the first for me, sorry. Can you help me understand that?

Hallo Ofc.RachelT.......
The sayn "by your will so mote it be" is equivalent to, "What you put into it, so it may be".....
ANd I do not idolize Obama, I have my own religion that I stick to. I just think he will be a refreshing change. And you're right...he does have yet to prove his worth to the country.

Ok, I see what you are trying to say Quassia13. By the way, I don't think anyone has officially welcomed you to the forum. Welcome aboard the POLICE magazine forum!
From what I am reading, you sound Irish/English. I have friends from England. Anyway, see ya around on the board.

RE: obama
He'd have to really screw up to lead us deeper into war inre Iraq, since we've pretty much won that war and are already leaving. Just a few weeks ago we turned the last US controlled zone over to the Iraqi's, and are there mostly as an advisory force now. Afghanistan is a little different, but things heated up there only because the jihadis left Iraq and went there. If Obama is smart, he'll let General Petrayus take care of the situation. Worst thing Obama can do is start meddling.
The other thing that worries me about Obama is, if you look at his record, he has never actually MADE a hard decision. Or many decisions atall. Ah well, we're in for an interesting 4 years.
