Officer Jeff Elasky of the Edina (Minn.) Police Department was taking a break for dinner from his overtime job when two men walked in the door to rob the fast food joint he was in. What would you do in his situation?

I like to think I would react almost exactly as Off. Elasky did. Take cover and be a good witness until I got the chance to take action. The only difference is that I think I would identify myself and give them a chance to surrender before pulling the trigger. If the suspects are going down the line robbing the customers, and it looked like they were about to injure someone, I would not identify, but otherwise I think I would. This is not to say Off. Elasky was wrong about this, just that I think I would do it differently.
