RE: November 2008 Editorial: Brace for Impact
My agency has a large problem with travel. We have 300 agents spread all over Texas and we travel a lot for anything needed from HQ in Austin. The first thing done by the Governor was to ask for travel budgets to be reduced.
But the way the Texas budget system works (two years at a time), we were fairly well covered this year. Starting our budget process, we are expecting major reductions for the next two years.

There will be layoffs everywhere, in every agency, in every industry. The guys at the top apparently look down and say, let's get rid of a few of those guys at the bottom. That will save us some money.

How is the financial crisis affecting you and your agency?
We shoot less times per year ~ conserving energy use at the station is another ~ cutting down on overtime is on the rise by using more part-time officers/auxiliary officers
So far no one has been laid off yet.
