May 2009: S&W Revolvers

Paul Scarlata reviewed Smith & Wesson's Night Guard revolvers in POLICE's May Arsenal feature. Would you carry a revolver, or are you too used to an automatic to switch?

RE: May 2009: S&W Revolvers

I would go back to carrying a revolver anytime. I carried a model 65 revolver for years on duty. I have had a .45acp revolver in the past I would love to have back.

The real trick to carrying a revolver is in the tactics and the rest of the equipment. For example, I have looked at buying the 325NG revolver from S&W recently, but could not find a holster to fit it. Finding pouches for the full moon clips to carry spare ammo is also a problem.

And I am in the process of buying a used model 66 revolver from my agency that they are finally retiring. It was first purchased in 1984 and has been used in training for simunitions for the past 10 years.

Of course, since I am currently carrying a 1911, it is obvious I am kind of partial to the older, tried and true weapons.
