Police and the paranormal

When I was a deputy in Northern California one of my buddies told me that he had gone to his first "ghost call."  He told me the story of a calling party that called dispatch because he had witnessed something paranormal.  My friend eluded to the fact that most police officers had been called to something like that in their career.

I have never responded to such a thing.  However, I am interested in finding out if anyone else has had a similar experience with some sort of paranormal call.  I think it would be interesting to know how often the public is involving law enforcement in these types of events that they believe are paranormal.

If you have responded to a call involving the paranormal, extraterrestrials or anything in that category, I would love to hear about it.  I will keep your story completely confidential if you wish.  Please contact me through email at mbrechwald@clearwire.net

RE: Police and the paranormal

What I'm about to say is the God's honest truth so help me God.

My father was a 25 year veteran of a Detroit Suburb PD. He was a cop's cop. Honest as the day is long and very well respected among his peers. I have no doubt as to the authenticity. I was 16 years old at the time of the event. My dad retired 15 years ago and is still living the good life.

During project Blue Book in the early seventies he actually witnessed a UFO. One evening after midnight he was about to go to bed. He always would look outside and make sure the doors were locked up and no idiots were lurking. This one morning he happened to catch a light out the corner of his eye at a 45 degree angle while at the front door of our home.
He saw a stationary object which appeared to be pretty high in the sky. He could make out the detail fairly well with the naked eye. He stated it was cigar shaped and would change color. He observed this craft for about a half an hour when he realized that he had a monocular surveillance scope that he would use on stakeouts in the coat closet near the front door. He got the scope out and had some pretty good magnification now. What he observed next is very interesting. He saw this object would seem to change shape when it changed color. He also noticed that what looked like windows on the craft would appear then seemed to disappear. He watched this for a few more minutes and called my mother to the door and they watched this thing together. Not wanting to wake us kids up to see this once in a lifetime event....because we had school the next day....is something I will never forgive him for and he knows it :-}.

While they were observing the craft he called the PD and told them what he was looking at. The guys on the midnight shift saw it too when he brought it to their attention. He prefaced the phone call he made like this. " This is ****...I haven't been drinking but......

He got a number from the desk Sgt and called the Blue Book number. The number was an Illinois exchange from what I recall. He told them who he was and what he was seeing. The voice on the other end said yes...we are observing that same object as well!  I'm not sure if their "chapter" in Michigan was looking at it or what. He felt better knowing he wasn't seeing things or going nuts. My parents watched this object move slowly away to the horizon and lost sight of it.

NOW FOR THE ERRIE PART

The same day we were all sitting down at breakfast before school. This was about 6-7 hours after the event. My 5 year old brother...who was sain at that time and still is......said to my mom....." How come you didn't wake up last night when that man was in the house" Both my mom and dad looked at him and each other and said, "WHAT MAN"? He went on to tell them that he woke up and was afraid because he saw something in the hallway on the main floor. He went to my mom and was shaking her to wake up. My mother is a very light sleeper....she didn't wake up.

My brother buried his head into her pillow for a couple of minutes and decided to peak at my parents bedroom door from the inside of the room. He said he saw a short being with a bluish suit and white hair peering into the room and was looking at him. The being then, as he described it jumped in slow motion across the doorway and peered back into the room again. That was all he could remember. He is in his 40's today and still remembers the event like yesterday. It seems peculiar that he would even say such a thing when he wasn't even aware of the events only a few hours before. Needless to say, my parents were freaked out. Did something really enter our home??? We will never know.

Later that morning my mother told her good friend the story. Her friend was the wife of another officer. When she had told the whole story to her, her friend was hysterical in laughter.  Her friend said that it was a coincidence and the boy must have just had a bad dream. Well a few months went by when my mother received a call from her good friend. The friend told her to grab the evening paper and look at an article about a UFO that had crashed many years ago "Roswell". In this article was a description of the dead aliens. The description matched exactly what my bother had seen. Coincidence again.....I'll leave that for you to decide. I know it made a believer out of my moms friend.

Because I know my family and their character, I believe that they really observed something that cannot be explained. It wasn't swamp gas or light refracting off of venus. As a trained observer my father knows the differences in aircraft. He was a paratrooper in the army. He said that what he saw....and he observed it with a scope....was not built on this planet.

For many months after the event he was frequently and openly made fun of by the "guys". One of the guys was an artist and drew him, uniform, Sgt stripes and all piloting a flying saucer...with a caption on it making a radio transmission calling for backup!

Eventhough some other guys saw the object in the sky too.....he was the one who called it in.....thus earning the coveted Car 54 UFO award.

As for my brother, his head has not started to spin 360 degrees yet and he hasn't turned blue.

He did loose all of his hair though.  I'm 50 and apparently was not exposed to alien scuzz, as I have all of my hair.  I think he's jealous......oh well!

RE: Police and the paranormal

Prior to getting my civilian PD job I was an MP at FT Riley. I worked MP Duty Officer for several months before the enlisted guys told me of this. There was a cemetery on the east border of the post and one of the markers was of a female, I can only guess it was a statue of Mary. I had driven the road on the border several times as part of my patrol duties and never took notice until it was pointed out to me that the statue moves. One of my troops took me out there and showed me that the arms are extended out as in a welcoming gesture. He told me that occasionally the arms would be seen in a praying gesture, palms together under the chin. I told him he was full of it. I forgot about this for probably a year. The post would conduct yearly "Ghost Tours" and claimed FT Riley was one of the most haunted posts in the Army. My wife made me take this tour and while on the tour the guide took us past this statue. The guide explained the statue is normally praying and occasionally the arms are seen extended out. Sure enough the statue was praying. I chalked it up to not remembering what position my troop had told me the statue was in when he took me there a year earlier, but when I asked him the next Monday at PT he said quickly with out hesitation the arms were out. There is a book sold at the FT Riley museum that speaks of this haunting. It even quotes some of the MPs who patrolled the road. There are several other stories of hauntings that I know of, but never experienced personally.  I hope my troop wouldn't pull my leg, but it wouldn't be the first time a troop had fun with my easygoing personality ;)
