Recent police indictments
Well, three officers have been indicted recently for two stupid events.
In one case, an officer forgot his K-9 partner was in the patrol car and left the dog there in the heat. The dog died and it was recently announced that the officer would be indicted for animal cruelty. I don't know how he left the dog there, but I figure he must be feeling pretty badly anyway. I know that officers can get to feel almost as close to their K-9 partners as to human partners and family. So I have mixed emotions about the indictment, but agree with the Sheriff that he should be treated the same as anyone else in that situation.

In the second case, the officers got a call about a snake in a tree and tried to shoot it. One of the bullets went past the snake and came down killing a little boy. Again, this was a tragic mistake and I know the officers feel badly about it but they should be treated like anyone else. What I don't understand about this case is why any officer would shoot upwards at a snake, especially without using something like snake shot. I have shot a lot of snakes on duty calls, but I always carried a few rounds of snakeshot in my briefcase for just that reason. And yes, CCI makes it so it works in automatics too.

Snake Shooting
I find it bizarre that anyone would shoot upward at a snake, especially, if its not a threat. To be fair, in Connecticut we do not have any snakes roaming about.

RE: Recent police indictments
I dunno, I'm reminded of an episode of 'Cops' where they get a snake call, and the patrol officers are dancing around it like little girls (no offence to little girls) when one FTO arrived, sighed, grabbed his nightstick and THWAP. No more snake problem. Personally, when I find snakes where they're not supposed to be I just catch 'em and release them somewhere safe; even if they're venomouse it's not that hard to catch them. Take off a shoelace, make a nose, lasso the snake and pull tight, grab behind the head, you're done. And yes, I'm stupid. So? <LOL>
Of course, I also know most poisonous snakes have an anionic poison which can be nuetralised with current, and I have jumper cables in my car, just in case of a bite . Not moccasins though, think their poison is necrotic.
