November 2007 How to Spot a Concealed Firearm
Can you tell who is carrying a concealed firearm without searching? How do you do it? What are some of the methods that you have seen bad guys use to conceal their weapons?

On another forum, I posted the general rule for telling whether or not a person carrying a gun is a bad guy or not. My experience is that good guys will use holsters, either on the waist or shoulder. Inside the waistband is a popular way for a licensed person to carry concealed.
It seems bad guys very rarely use a holster. They will stick the pistol in their waistband directly or in their pocket. I know that is a generalization and will not always hold true, but think about how often it is true.
AS for spotting the weapon, I look for the unusual bulges where they are not supposed to. Shirts and jackets will usually hang up on the butt as a person moves around. A person getting in or out of a car will almost always adjust the weapon position unconsciously. Those are my best ways.
And I always assume there is a weapon on anyone I meet, to keep my tactics up. To quote from the movie "Miss Congeniality": "This is Texas. Everyone has a gun."
