November 2007 Editorial—Death Race
What is your agency doing to stop street racing? Have you witnessed the form of street racing called "Cutting the Gap?" What would you do to stop it?

RE: November 2007 Editorial—Death Race
I had never seen or heard of the "Cutting the Gap" racing. Texas took a proactive stance on street racing a couple years ago by upping the offenses involved. This is now class B misdemeanor (six months in jail) for a first offense, class A (year in jail) for second conviction, state jail felony (two years) for third conviction, with any conviction being a third or second degree felony for injury or death respectively.
This has helped cut down on the incidents, as has cutting down on media reporting of them.

Also Steve, it helps that the law applies to all spectators present. Times have changed since we used to send them to the old airport out of town (back in the old days).
