May 2008 Patrol Response—Crimes Against Tourists

Do you deal with tourists and the people who victimize them? Do you have any advice for fellow officers about how to cope with this problem?

Patience. Lots and lots of patience. Especially with those who don't speak English.

Something else, remember that these people don't deal with crime on a daily basis. Sure, to us a snatch and grab from a car means nothing. Just a small property theft. But to the victim it may well be one of the most traumatic events in their life. Treat it accordingly, and be compassionate.
