August 2007 SWAT Behind Bars

Have you had any experience responding to disturbances and riots in corrections facilities? Have you ever attended the Mock Prison Riot?

RE: August 2007 SWAT Behind Bars

Here in California; The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) has tactical teams at each prison. These teams are called SERT (Special Emergency Response Team). However, during a riot within a California State Prison, regular line staff (Correctional Peace Officers) are the first responders and SERT is rarely activated. Furthermore, most Ca. Prisons will never call for “mutual aid” from outside agencies for the purpose of coming into a prison and quailing a riot.

If a situation arises, which an armed tactical response is necessary (i.e. hostage situation, massive escape attempt, etc.) then SERT is activated.
