Officer Remains On Duty After Stun Gun Use Questioned
Fort Worth police officer Stephanie Phillips will remain on active duty while a grand jury reviews an incident where she twice Tasered a mentally ill man who later died, the Star-Telegram reports.
During the call, Michael Jacobs, 24, was combative with officers, and was shocked twice for 49 seconds and five seconds with a one-second interval.
In August, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner ruled Jacobs' death a homicide and released a report quoting Phillips as saying she "unknowingly kept the Taser trigger engaged for an unknown amount of time when she first applied the Taser, thus increasing the pre-programmed shock duration cycle of five seconds."
