The trigger of the DDM4 is crisp and breaks cleanly at four pounds. This coupled with the tight fit of the receivers and quality barrel makes this M4 wicked accurate.

Daniel Defense M4 Carbine

Although the Daniel Defense M4, or DDM4, is a factory rifle, it looks like it was built by a custom shop. This carbine ships with quad fore rails, a removable backup sight, Magpul MOE adjustable stock, Daniel Defense vertical fore grip, a flared/beveled trigger guard, a flared mag well, and a Magpul 30-round PMAG.

The Beretta Px4 Storm comes in a wide variety of sizes, calibers, and actions. Most commonly sold as single-action/doubleaction, the polymer-framed Storm was designed as a successor to the Beretta Cougar. In the September 2008 "Arsenal," reviewer Nick Jacobellis wrote: "The PX4 subcompact is an excellent small pistol. And I really love the variety that it offers … The greatest compliment that I can pay any firearm I test is to use my hard-earned money to purchase it. Once I started field-testing the Beretta PX4 subcompact, I knew I wanted to buy one."

Handguns - 2009

The gun manufacturers have been busy building some truly innovative firearms for law enforcement. The following is a quick look at some of the more interesting handgun models that have come to the attention of POLICE in recent months. Some of these weapons haev been featured in our "Arsenal" firearms review features. Others are on our radar for future articles.

5.11's Revolution Holster is a secure level 1 retention holster, producing an audible click as your sidearm seats. With the look, feel, and fit of a custom holster, the resilient Revolution Holster offers high-impact strength and withstands variable weather conditions beyond 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the special slick-surface polymer doesn't wear the finish of your gun. A positive lock trigger guard and adjustable tension screws are standard. Each holster comes with an adjustable belt loop and paddle. Crafted in the United States, the Revolution Holster is right-handed, comes in 14 styles, and accommodates 30 gun models.

Duty Holsters

With all of the duty holsters available today, it's amazing to think the only option for police officers used to be black leather. Now there's also laminate, nylon, and all manner of synthetics. For finish there's basketweave, plain, or high gloss. Not to mention increasingly innovative retention devices in holsters from level 1 to 3. Here's a selection of holsters for duty carry encompassing all of these variations.

At engagement distances from a few yards out to 50 yards, you cannot beat a red dot. When you are at contact distance to 10 yards, simply put the target in the tube of the sight and you will get a hit. By the way, this technique was developed by I.P.S.C. shooters, and their performance was the driving force behind the military adopting Aimpoint red dot sights.

Rifle Optics

When it comes to gear and gadgets for duty applications, many of us are drawn to the coolest, most expensive items. That's true of weapons and it's true of weapon accessories such as optics. But what's more important is to find the right optics to fit your mission. Options include red dot sights, variable focal length short scopes often used on shotguns, and of course true precision scopes meant for use on a precision rifle.

The Bushmaster Gas Piston Rifle was created to give shooters a cleaner and easier to maintain version of the Bushmaster M4. The company says that the internal area of the upper receiver, including the bolt, bolt face, extractor, and firing pin, are kept cleaner and cooler than in conventional M4/AR-15 rifles because a sizable percentage of the hot gas and debris that would normally be injected into the upper receiver is kept inside the gas piston chamber to power the operating rod. The gases and burned powder that are not used to power the rod are vented from the rifle.

Patrol and SWAT Rifles

Ever since the 1997 North Hollywood bank robbery and shootout, the popularity of rifles in patrol operations has exploded. Rifle manufacturers have capitalized on this demand, and they are now making a variety of rifles specifically designed for patrol and SWAT operations. Here's a quick look at some of the long guns now available for service in law enforcement.
