NYPD to Retrofit New Hybrid Patrol Cars

The New York Police Department's trial program of using 58 hybrid Nissan Altimas as patrol vehicles has hit a minor snag, as officers are reporting their duty handguns catching on the seats as they exit the vehicle, the New York Times reports.
When an officer exits the car, the handle of the two-pound Smith & Wesson presses into the hip and then drags across the edges of the seat, officials said. The department's solution is to outfit the hybrids with flatter seats and lower the console between the driver and front passenger.
