City Committee Tells LAPD To Stop Hiring Officers

A city budget committee has asked the Los Angeles Police Department to stop hiring officers at least until January, as part of an effort to eliminate a $405 million budget shortfall, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The committee asked the department to cancel a November recruit class and suspend recruitment efforts. The move will slow efforts to add 1,000 new officers. Police furloughs are still a possibility, a committee member said.
