The New Orleans Police Department is trying to find out who shot at an officer while he was sitting in a car in New Orleans East, reports WWL-TV.

It happened Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Police officials said the officer was sitting in his car on a downed power line when he heard shots fired. He looked back and that's when police said he saw a muzzle flash towards him. Authorities said he jumped out of his vehicle and the subject ran.

The officer was not hurt and did not fire his weapon at the suspect, said authorities.
