Fed Wildlife Agents Bust Calif. Rhino-Horn Smugglers
February 23, 2012
|
Federal wildlife investigators cracked down on an international rhinoceros-horn smuggling ring in California and other states, seizing $1 million in cash, $1 million in gold bars and 20 horns, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The raids, which were led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, focused on Jimmy Kha's import-export business in Westminster, in his safety-deposit boxes and at his Garden Grove home. Kha is accused of trafficking in sawed-off horns, which fetch high prices in Vietnam and China for their supposed cancer-curing powers.
More than 150 federal agents and other local enforcement officers raided homes and businesses and made several arrests in a dozen states over the weekend, including three alleged traffickers in Southern California.

This occurs right as they are thinking of stripping the federal wildlife service of their authority to carry weapons on duty....Keep up the good work

Hopefully whoever is responsible for the pending decision to disarm field agents will realize the utter stupidity of such a measure and back off. This case is an excellent example showing that USFWS does not just go around checking for fishing licenses. They not only deal with armed persons in hunting areas but also investigate multi-million dollar, international smuggling organizations undoubtedly run by some very unsavory people that are not going to want to be arrested.
