Los Angeles Police Sgt. Joe Buscaino soundly defeated his opponent to win a seat on the City Council earlier this month, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Buscaino captured 59% of the vote in his Jan. 17 run-off election with Warren Furutani. He and Furutani (41% of ballots) collected the most votes in November balloting. Buscaino will now represent the Harbor area, including San Pedro, Wilmington, and Harbor City.
Sgt. Buscaino becomes the fourth active, retired or part-time LAPD officer on the 15-member council. He joins former Chief Bernard Parks, former motorcycle officer Dennis Zine, and reserve officer Mitchell Englander.
