Van Thief Rams Motor Officer, Drags Him Across Two Lanes of Traffic

The officer had spotted the van and was parked in a center divider on his bike when the driver accelerated toward the officer, striking him and dragging him across two lanes of traffic before striking a street light.

A suspect involved in the vehicular assault of a Fremont (Calif.) Police officer was arrested Monday on a BART train in Hayward, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

The arrested man apparently knows a suspect who earlier in the day had deliberately rammed Fremont PD motor officer Patrick Brower with a stolen delivery van.

Brower, a 10-year veteran of the department, had spotted the van and was parked in a center divider on his bike when the driver accelerated toward the officer, striking him and dragging him across two lanes of traffic before striking a street light. Brower was pinned under the van, reports SFGate.com.

VIDEO: Brower suffered a broken leg with multiple fractures that required a metal rod to stabilize the bones, reports KTVU.
