Chicago Lawmakers Want National Guard to Reduce Gun Crime

Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis answers that the National Guard isn't part of the solution. So far this year, 113 people have been killed across the Chicago area, the same number as U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis is speaking out against the offering by two Illinois legislators to send the Illinois National Guard to help reduce the amoung of gun violence in the city, the Sun-Times reports.

At a press conference Sunday, Rep. John Fritchey and Rep. LaShawn Ford asked Mayor Daley and Gov. Quinn to use the reservists. So far this year, 113 people have been killed across the Chicago area, the same number as U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, the legislators said.
