Two Sheriff's Deputies, Officer Shot in Northern California

As many as four people were taken to a Fresno hospital today after a holed-up arson suspect shot at deputies and a fire investigator serving an arrest warrant.

All were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

One Fresno County sheriff's deputy was in critical condition after being shot in the side under his armpit. A Reedley police officer also was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a wound to the head, officials said.

A third officer, a sheriff's deputy, had a gunshot wound to the shoulder and his condition was not known.

A fourth ambulance transported an unknown person with wounds to the hospital.

One of the wounded men from the sheriff's department has died. He was a detective. His name has not been released.

About 200 officers from nearly a dozen agencies have responded to the shooting.
