Former Philly Cop Who Planned Drug Robbery Faces Life In Prison

Alhinde Weems, a former Philadelphia police officer, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, drug distribution, and other charges, U.S. Attorney Michael Levy has announced.

At the time of his arrest in March, police said Weems had been a drug dealer prior to joining the department and sold drugs to other officers while on the job.

Weems, 34, distributed crack cocaine two times and attempted to distribute a kilogram of cocaine between December 2008 and January, according to an FBI press release. The "drug dealer" was an undercover federal agent.

In March, Weems robbed another drug dealer and planned to use several firearms to commit this robbery, including his Glock 9mm service weapon. When he was arrested in March, officers also confiscated a 12-gauge shotgun, a .38-caliber handgun, a second 9mm handgun, and a variety of ammunition. The weapons were all licensed.

If convicted of all charges, Weems could be sentenced to life in prison and fined $6.5 million.
