Mayor Who Banned Police Vehicle And Foot Pursuits Reverses Herself

A small-town South Carolina mayor who told police they couldn't chase suspects on foot or driving a patrol vehicle has changed her mind, WTKR-TV reports.

Sallie Peake, the mayor of Wellford, S.C., changed the policy, after the town's solicitor sent her a letter telling her the policy interfered with officers' sworn duty to protect the public by pursuing felons. Peake had claimed the pursuits were too costly.

The person who sent that letter is correct, but at the same time I understand the mayor position during this time. Small towns as well as large cities are running into difficult times finding funds to pay for essential operations of a police department.

I don't see how chasing suspects on foot would create a funding problem, I think that the Mayor was just trying to grab power and get the support of the criminals. This so typical of a Hard Care Administrative Hack that needs to be voted out of office.
