N.Y. imam Tied to Alleged Al Qaeda Plot Spent Time in Jail for Sexual Abuse Rap

Ahmad Afzali was busted on June 24, 1992 - when he was 20 - for grabbing a woman's buttocks, the records show.

Now 37, Afzali was indicted for sex abuse but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge - attempted sex abuse - and served six months in jail, with five years' probation.

A sometime NYPD snitch, Afzali remains in custody on suspicion that he warned Najibullah Zazi, the suspected brains behind the plot, that the feds were on to him.

Afzali's creepy past came to light as Zazi awaited a bail hearing today in Denver, where plans for moving him to a federal facility in New York could be finalized.
