Texas Police Widow Struggles as Execution of Husband's Killer Nears

Sheila Moore has managed pretty well in the dozen years since her husband, Garland, Texas, police Officer Michael "David" Moore, was shot to death trying to prevent a bank robbery.

She and their three children live in a gated community near Lake Ray Hubbard. Both daughters have graduated from high school and earned college scholarships. A teenage son has become an avid Boy Scout.

But then, this summer, came one of the harshest reminders of Feb. 15, 1997, the day Kenneth Mosley killed Moore's husband and left her children without a father. The family got word that Mosley's execution had been scheduled.

We all know executing this piece of **** will not give Officer Moore back to his family or make up for any of the years his kids and wife had to go on living without him. However, it will absolutely ensure he will never be released to prey on the public again, or maybe kill another officer to keep from going back to prison. It is too bad he wasn't fatally shot at the scene instead of only in the wrist then allowed to live another twelve years at taxpayer expense. Hopefully Mrs. Moore and her children will not let their hearts be troubled with doubts about whether the state should execute him. He should have been executed long ago as should anyone who kills a law enforcement officer.
