One recruit had retired from the military and was of the mindset that the only person who could train him was someone chronologically older than he was. This created a problem.

I want you to think about your daily routines in preparing for the job. Every department has one great knee-slapper of a story about someone making a big mistake due to laxity. But to me, if someone could have been injured or worse I hate it.

You should be thinking to yourself as you approach any call for perceived dangers. For example, when I park the patrol car I should not park directly in front of the building. You should take critical microseconds to gain a tactical advantage that places you in an advantageous position to observe and respond.

You deserve respect for the stress and hard work you take on. You also deserve the occasional much needed R&R.

In addition to mandated in-service and state training, I urge you to take courses to enhance your skills and performance. Start small and work your way up to more advanced classes.
